What is your favorite memory, story, experience, etc. while at the University Fire Department?

It’s hot, dry, and feels like summer in Anchorage today(5/23/2014).  I can smell the smoke from the Tyonek and Funny River wildfires, The memory that most comes to my mind about the University is……

Picture this… Gravel pit out by the Fairbanks airport, beautiful water, HOT July, sight and smell of black spruce smoke everywhere, perfect gravel…. You know that one!! The pumper/draft testing site. Well our BC was in charge of pumper testing, so that was convenient. So was setting up Engine 11 and jumping off the tip, splash!!! You may not be able to do that one these days.  But thanks for memory.

There are so many experiences, stories, traditions, friends, and memories that are created once you are a member of the University Fire Department family.

Brief History/Biography:

The City of Roses, Portland, Oregon; is where my early years of youth were spent. My mother and I moved to Alaska 2 weeks after the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, I was twelve. We got here via the inside passage on the Alaska Marine Hwy Ferry. It was a trip to the land of the unknown.

I graduated from Robert Service High in 1997.  During the time in high school I had ventured to Seldovia, AK and learned to fish. The country around the south coast of Alaska is big, bold, and wild. Seldovia had it all. I would eventually meet my beautiful Wife there.

But I proceeded to the University of Alaska Fairbanks to attend school, more so to work at the University Fire Department.
